Doughnuts with Salted Caramel Sauce

Delicious homemade doughnuts topped with rich salted caramel sauce, perfect for any occasion.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 cup sugar (for caramel sauce)
  • 6 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and melted butter.
  3. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  4. Heat oil in a deep pot to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Use a doughnut cutter or two round cookie cutters to shape the dough.
  6. Carefully place the doughnuts into the hot oil, frying for about 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  7. Remove and let them cool on a wire rack.
  8. For the salted caramel sauce, melt the sugar over medium heat until it turns amber, then add butter and cream. Stir until smooth and add salt to taste.
  9. Drizzle the warm caramel over the doughnuts before serving.

Notes

To keep doughnuts crispy, cool on a rack. Store in an airtight container for up to two days or refrigerate for up to a week.
