Avocado Toast

A simple, fresh, and fast breakfast or snack made with ripe avocados, good bread, a squeeze of lemon, and a pinch of salt and pepper.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 2 slices of bread (sourdough, whole grain, or your favorite)
  • 1–2 teaspoons lemon or lime juice
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1–2 teaspoons olive oil (optional)
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Toppings (optional): sliced tomato, cucumber, radish, soft herbs (parsley, chives), everything bagel seasoning, feta, or a fried/poached egg

Instructions

  1. Pick a ripe avocado. It should give slightly when you press it.
  2. Cut the avocado, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a bowl.
  3. Mash with a fork. Add lemon or lime juice, salt, and pepper. Stir until creamy with small chunks.
  4. Drizzle bread with a little olive oil if you like. This helps the toast crisp.
  5. Prepare your toppings (slice tomato, chop herbs, fry or poach an egg if using).
  6. Toast the bread: use a toaster on medium-high (about 3–4 minutes) or bake in a 400°F (200°C) oven for 6–8 minutes until golden and crisp.
  7. Spread the avocado on hot toast. Add toppings. Finish with a pinch of salt, pepper, and chili flakes. Serve right away.

Notes

Best served fresh. For extra crunch, toast bread a bit longer than usual. Keep toppings separate to maintain crispness.
